Yamaha NXSW10 4-Piece Speaker System Specifications Ready for multimedia surround sound? Or maybe you just need a sound system for that hot DVD player in your living room or your computer. Either way, there's a good chance that this is the system for you. Yamaha's CinemaStation NX-SW10 includes a 50-watt powered subwoofer, a center-channel speaker, and a pair of small rear-channel speakers (the subwoofer sends 25 watts each to the center and rear speakers). This system is designed specifically as a companion to Yamaha's CinemaStation VS-10 controller and stereo speakers, and please note that it won't work correctly without that set. When used together, however, the two create a complete 5.1-channel home-theater sound system. The subwoofer's bass-reflex enclosure uses a 6.25-inch long-throw driver powered by a hefty 50 watts. In addition, Yamaha's Active Servo circuitry helps correct anomalies between the incoming audio signal and the actual motion of the driver, which creates not only deep bass (well, reasonably deep for a driver this size) but accurate bass, so your music and movies will sound just the way they should. No controls are available from the woofer because all adjustments are made at the VS-10 control unit. Three sets of spring-clip connectors and a set of marked speaker wires connect from the subwoofer to the center-channel and surround speakers. The center channel uses dual 3-inch cones, while each surround speaker uses a single 3-inch cone. The surround channels can be mounted either on a wall with the supplied brackets or on optional stands. With the entire rig dialed in just so (not a difficult task, thanks to Yamaha's clear instructions and intuitive ergonomics), we get excellent speaker-to-speaker timbre matching (each speaker's character matches the next, critical for proper multichannel sound) as well as an impressively large and pleasantly seamless soundstage (an impression of the events before and around you). The center channel does a fine job of fixing dialog at the screen, and provides good if not outstanding off-axis performance (the ability to root sounds at the screen from extreme left/right listening positions). The subwoofer also performs admirably. It may not have the "slam" we hear with more beast-like woofers, but it's fast, punchy, well-defined, and provides reasonable thrills with action-packed DVDs. Keep in mind that Yamaha's NX-SW10 works only with the company's VS-10, which provides the digital processing and controls, along with a stereo amplifier and speakers. Nice as each system is, they are complete only when used together and are meant for small-to-medium-sized rooms. Like its mate, the NX-SW10 is a high-quality package. Customer Review Best Customer Review : This review is based on someone who doesn't necessarily have to get the most up to date and expensive sound system. I mainly purchased this as a decent all in one sound system to go with my PS2/DVD and VCR. I had used the VS-10 by itself and it had decent sound. The virtual sound option was pretty nice. However the addition of the NXSW10 to the VS-10 made a word of difference. First is the bass. The subwolfer gave an excellent 3D sound and feel. Second, the satellite speakers drowned my room with sound. Very nice. Third, the entire system was very easy to use and setup with my TV and other electronic equipment. DVD movies sound very nice with multiple sound options from theater quality 5.1 to mono-stereo (if that will really need to be used). Regarding the PS2 use, Armored Core 2 is a good example of pulling out with this system can do. Very nice indeed. If someone is considering to purchase the VS-10 then I highly recommend the NXSW10 to go with it. |

Customer Review Best Customer Review : I needed to replace a couple of old receivers so I found a great deal on the RX-V1065 and RX-V765 on Amazon. I ended up getting both of them for aboout what 2 V665's would have cost me a a Big Box store. I first setup my Main Theate Room with the 1065, I thought it was somewhat difficult to get everything the way I wanted it but the automatic speaker setup was slick and the sound is fantastic compared to my old Sony I had previously. The Menu system takes some getting use to but once you do it's not bad to navigate. All in all I was pretty darn happy with my purchase, My JBL's sounded much better then before and although I didn't really notice any difference in video quality, it was as good as before and now I had everything coming thru the same box. Surround sound was a huge step up from my old receiver also, you are almost looking behind you now because you'd swear someone is behind you, where on my old Sony it was more or less a quieter front speaker. I then went to hook up my 765 in my cave TV room, first thing that I noticed was that is basically identical to the 1065, sure the menu system is not as polished but as far as the functionality that I need it is the same. I have a few year old Bose surround sound in this room with a JBL center chanel speaker and what a HUGE difference this receiver made over my old Onkyo, the Onkyo was really good for music but surround sound was sub par, but it was 10 years old I guess. Granted I'm only hooking up a Xbox 360, blue ray and TV in this room but watching Vikes beat up the the Packers in surround sound with this receiver was great, I haven't figured out which sound field I like best but there are a couple perfect for sports. One of the coolest things was when I grabbed the TV remote from my Samsung LCD by mistake to turn the volume down and it says RX-V765 un the upper corner and starts to tun down the volume of the receiver from the TV, displaying the volume the whole time it's changing. I guess that Anynet capability on the Samsung TV's with a HDMI reciever gives you a few more bells and whistles. Also really cool is when I turn on the Xbox or turn off the TV the receiver will come on or off accordingly. I haven't setup the remote for additionaly devices yet, but it seems to be easy to use and is exactly the same for th 765 and 1065 One thing I do not like is the Zone 2 ability on the 1065, I almost wish is was more or less a A/B speaker selector, I have a normal 5 speaker surround setup, in addition to that I have 2 speakers in the kitchen, right behind the TV room which are connect to Zone 2 that when I'm listening to music we like to have on so that you have more sound. The problem is that Zone 2 running the same input as the Main Room is off by a few fractions of a second and if you stand right between the 2 rooms, it sounds like the song is a half a second behind in the kitchen, I tried the lipsync thing, which only made it worse, I haven't given up on it yet, but it's not obvious how to fix this. Bottom Line - Both the 1065 and the 765 have more inputs than I know what to do with. Neither have HDMI on the front, I didn't want it anyway, as I think it looks stupid to set all your equipment up and then have a big cable hanging off the front of your system anyway. That's why the put the jacks on the back, right??? May not have quite as many sound fields as some others out there, but I pick the 2 or 3 I like for movies, sports and music anyway and don't care about the rest. The YPAO is cool and works great to setup the speakers. The onscreen Menu is better on the 1065 but adequate on the 765. HI-DEF Radio sounds amazing on both. Don't think I will ever use the remotes as universal remotes, but they are adequate for running the receivers. I cannot comment much on the video conversion, as everything I am running is HDMI and looks the same as it die running straight into the TV. Sound on both of these is fantastic, even at volumes that start to hurt, the sound is clear, the bass is crisp not slow and there is no distortion, my old receivers who make my speakers start to hiss at a much lower volume, and these receivers never do. Save yourself some money though get the 765, once it's all setup and you don't need to go into the menu anymore, you'll never notice the difference. I read a lot of reviews and narrowed it down to Onkyo and Yamaha, at last second I pulled the trigger on Yamaha and for what I paid on Amazon for the 2 of them I am thrilled with my purchase Customer Review 1 : Yamaha V765BL Home Theater Receiver - Leroy Nunn - Queen Creek, Arizona United States This receiver meets all my expectations. I combined it with a Yamaha NS-SP1800BL 5.1 Suround speakers and the new Samsung UN55B8000 55 Inch 1080P 240 Hz LED HDTV. The receiver's various controls over the inputs and the outputs of the sound system are perfect. Combine the above with its controls of a Blu Ray player and everything comes alive. Setup is incredibly easy. Yamaha provides a small microphone that you put where you listen from. The amp sends out a series of sounds that the microphone analyzes and sets all settings based on the results. The only disappointment was not getting HD radio at this price level. |

Customer Review Best Customer Review : The HTR-6240 is awesome so far. It sounds amazing. I'm also using it with a martin logan 5.1 MLT setup, a sony blue ray player and a 52" sharp aquos. I've read a lot of good things about the yamaha tuners so when I saw this at costco for a great price I didn't hesitate. Hooking it up was a breeze. HDMI makes is so easy. I used monster wire for my speakers and they sound amazing. The preset movie selections are cool. I like the Scifi setting the best. Standard is good too. I was able to tune the system using the enclosed mic. My first two times showed a phase warning. Checking my cables, indeed i had hooked up one of the rear speakers backwards. The manual seems comprehensive. I watched WALL-E and the tuner blew me away. I do get a warning message about incompatible sound output going to my tv, i need to disable the output hdmi for sound i guess (who needs crappy tv speaker sound?) Some of the downsides. Size, It sits up on four big legs, which makes the unit tall. I had to raise my wall mounted tv to accommodate this thing on my furniture. I thought about removing them, but I'm worried about cooling. The remote is kinda lame too. It doesn't light up and there are a million buttons. I find myself searching. Oh well I'll probably get a nice big universal remote anyway. Customer Review 1 : So much for the money - MovieMaven - Like another reviewer, I'm also puzzled by all of the problems the first reviewer he says he had. I bought the Yamaha HTR-6240 because I think it does more than anything else on the market for such a great price! For right around 0 who else gives you everything you need to power and control a 5.1 system? I also ended up calling Yamaha in California for a little bit of help setting up my system, which consisted of a flat panel, blu-ray, cable box and speakers. The guy on the other end of the phone was really great and answered all my questions. I was curious about this model number and asked him why we don't hear about the HTR models and usually only see the RX-V models. He told me the HTR-6240 is "identical" to the RX-V465, just used in a different group of dealers. Anybody interested should read those reviews too. Anyway, everything worked perfectly first time through and no problems since then. The auto speaker set-up is pretty amazing and did a great job getting the most out of my speakers in my room. The sound quality on movies and music is really good and the picture quality on blu-ray discs is mind-blowing. All things considered, if this doesn't qualify for 5 stars, I don't' know what would! |
