Customer Review

Best Customer Review : I purchased this unit a little over a month ago, and am very please with the performance and features that it has. In any setup, your speakers will have the biggest impact on the sound, but having a good quality surround receiver with minimal amplifier distortion makes a big difference as well. This receiver not only delivers beautiful surround sound for movies, but Yamaha goes the extra mile to provide DSP settings to enhance music listening enjoyment as well.

The setup of the receiver is actually pretty intuitive, and the menus are easy to navigate. The only thing this is missing that the more expensive Yamaha models have, is the automatic sound setup that uses a microphone which connects to the receiver. Those reveiver then calibrate all the speakers automatically for you. Forthis model, you still need to sit in your listening position and manually tweek the speaker settings (if you are not happy with the simple room size defaults). Not a big deal, just thought it was worth mentioning.

About the only thing I am not crazy about, is the typical Yamaha brick remote. It seems that Yamaha spends all its research and development money on DSPs and sound field processing software (which is a very good thing), but spends very little on remote control ergonomics design. The remote is fully functional and programmable, it's just clunky in design and feel. I guess Yamaha figures that most people only use their remote for initial setup, and then use a good universal remote for normal daily use.

All in all, for the price that Amazon currently has this unit listed for, you really can't beat it. So if you are looking for a 6.1 system, this is a great choice.

Customer Review 1 : Good price and delivery by Vanns - Chris Broderick - portland, oregon
Normally, I would have picked up this receiver at a local component store, but Vanns price on Amazon was much less. I've never purchased anything from Vanns but they are an authorized Yamaha dealer and they have solid customer reviews across the board. I can see why. The receiver arrived in two days and there was no shipping charge. Admittedly, I am in Oregon and Vanns is in Montana, but it's still impressive. The receiver is my second Yamaha home theater receiver with more power and features than my earlier one. Sounds great, of course, and delivers the goods in terms of power, functions, 6.1 separation and overall quality. My only complaint is that it doesn't have an HDMI input. Receivers with HDMI cost a lot more, which I don't understand given it will be the high-def industry standard in the near future. But for me it isn't worth the extra money at this point, so I went with this unit.

Customer Review 2 : Etronics-horrible experience - L. Crow - little rock, ar
Product arrived damanaged via UPS on June 2. Amazon arranged a pick up for product to go back to Etronics. After 5 weeks of e-mails and telephone calls Etronics threw in the towel and ordered a refund. I went to Circuit City, talked to a knowledgable sales rep and got a better product for same amount of money. Buying electonics on the internet is a mistake. You save no money after you figure the shipping.
